Cornelius and Honora Daly settled in Semiwagan Ridge Lot # 2 in the 1834.An actual hand-written will - This land willed from Cornelius to John Crotty, and then willed from John Crotty to his Grandson John Crotty (Jr.).The farm was sold in 1902 / 03 before the family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. This lot is a few miles south of Nelson-Miramichi, and Barnaby River is down the road.Fr. Egan did most of the Crotty Baptisms, however no headstones for the Crotty or the Bohan's are in the Cemetery.

Arrivedin Canada from Ireland as a stow away on a boat at the age of about 14.
John had one brother that was a teacher in Australia.
John often told the story to his children of how his Mother gave him the equivalent of $.50 before he left, and she stood on the shore crying until he could not longer see her.

Millions of Irish emigrants fell victim to uncaring politicians, inhuman landlords, brutal crews, ruthless brokers, dockside racketeers, corrupt ship owners, and land agents in London, all who stood to profit from the famine in Ireland. Yet, there are stories of safe crossings, heroism, and kindness toward Irish emigrants on their way to a new life across the seas.
In all Ireland, no one had suffered more throughout the Famine than the inhabitants of Patrick Crotty's home county of Cork. The town of Skibbereen witnessed the very first blights and starvation, and the first of the British Government's soup kitchens. The Famine graves were dug beside a ruined Cistercian cell and attracted pilgrimages for more than a hundred years.

Cork's great natural Harbour at Cove, named Queenstown since 1848, was know as the "Harbour of Tears," as it was the site of many anguished good byes as floods of emigrants left for America during the Famine years. The River Lee flows out of the cove through the former wetlands and swampy marshes to Cork (Gaelic "Corcaigh" meaning marsh) and divides to enclose an island right in the heart of the city. The island itself, and the opposing banks of the North South Channels, provide 22 quays, at one of which the "Odessa" was tied on August 19, 1851. Beyond the city, the river meanders through woods and water meadows and just to the north stands Blarney Castle, built four centuries earlier and home of the ever-famous Blarney Stone.

The ship's list of 142 passengers shows that Mary O'Neill sailed alone with her four daughters, one being new-born Catherine. There were 30 children under the age of ten aboard, plus two dozen teenagers four of whom were the Murphy girls traveling without parents, and nine young families traveling without husbands or fathers. By 1851, this pattern of family travel was increasingly common as few families could afford to travel with all its members and often the mothers were widowed. The oldest men on board were Pat Barry and William Rockey, both age 50 and traveling alone. A 20-year-old bachelor, Simon Crotty, Patrick's younger brother, was one of the passengers.

The "Odessa," a veteran of many Atlantic crossings was 99 feet long, weighed 323 tons, was built in New Brunswick, Canada and owned by William Carson, Dublin's foremost shipping merchant and Dublin was her home port. She arrived in Cork with her old sea captain, Henry Selly, and Dublin-hired crew including his usual mate, Eddie Dempsey, the bosun, William Denstow, ship's carpenter, and James Kelly, the cook - all experienced seaman. Records show that Dempsey was paid 2 pounds 10 shillings a month with a bonus on return, while ordinary seamen received 1 pound 5 shillings. The crew was also guaranteed a good solid meal every day during the voyage. In addition, a dozen Irishmen, four Englishmen, and American and a Canadian had been hired for the trip.

From existing "Agreement For Foreign Going Ship" records stored in London, on the last day Patrick Crotty of Cork was hired as "passengers cook" for the one-way journey, even though he had never been to sea before and was not an apprentice seaman. He was also advanced his pay, a shilling, (25 cents in 1851) upon swearing to "conduct himself in an orderly, faithful, honest and sober manner" and be diligent in his duties. One could speculate that the captain took pity on young Patrick so that he could accompany his brother.

On arrival in New York on September 29th, Patrick was discharged, according to the crew roll, free to start a new life with his brother, Simon - Capt. Selly having once again brought his ship and human cargo safely to port.

Notes for MARY ROSE MULCAHY:
Mary Rose Mulcahy was born April 3, 1878 in a log cabin on a farm near Lawler, Iowa.As a child she attended a small country school, a couple of miles from her home.Although she was a very good student and enjoyed school, her education was cut short because she was needed at home to help with the work and tend to the smaller ones that were coming along.
Like her parents she cherished a great love for horses and could ride their fastest horse bare-back.In fact she and her sister Jo (Josephine) used to take two horses and race from the top of a hill, about a mile from the house, to see who would have to do the dishes.Twice as a youngster she had pneumonia and was at deaths door.On the days that her parents would go to town those kids at home would have a regular picnic cooking candy and baking everything under the sun. However the minute they would see the horse and buggy coming over the hill in the distance, away would go the pots and pans and everything would be neat as a whistle.
She was a fragile child and resembled her grandmother Rose (McBreen) Coakley.
When she was nineteen years old she came to Minneapolis, Minnesota. to visit her sisters Julia and Ellen (Nell), while visiting them she obtained work there in a book bindery, sewing big ledgers by hand. She lived with her sister Julia and her Husband Charlie O'Connel first but Charlie had too strict of rules and would lock the door on her if she stayed out too late for his liking. So she told him off and moved in with her sister Ellen and her husband Patrick Mahoney (Who Charlie didn't much care for). That really got Charles goat but she wouldn't move back when he asked her to.
She meet John Gillis when she was twenty-two, three years later she became engaged to him and two years after that they were married.
She was a good and efficient housekeeper. She sewed all of her daughters clothes until they were 10 years old.Later she did very little sewing because it bothered her eyes.
When she was about 58 years old she was operated on for a goiter which had done considerable damage to her heart. She died at the age of 65 of enlargement of the heart.

15.AGNES THERESA4 CROTTY (BRIDGET3, JOHN2, CROTTY1)89 was born May/31/1870 in New Brunswick, Canada90, and died May/26/1953 in Minnesota91.She married ROBERT FRANCIS WYNN92 September/14/1886, son of GEORGE WYNN and ANN.

Notes for AGNES THERESA CROTTY:
She used the name Teresa in her younger years.
She was listed with Bridget and Dennis Harrington on 1880 census of Minneapolis in June of the year. Her relationship to Dennis is given as sister-in-law.Dennis' naturalization states that he entered the US on or about March 7, 1880.
On the 1871 Canadian census of Kent county, New Brunswick, Canada, baby Teresa is living with Bridget, who is a servant in a small village if Kouchibouguac.Since Bridget's Mother Honora Crotty had been dead for probably 10 years, and her Father John Crotty was approaching 60 years of age, I find improbable to believe that Teresa Agnes is anything other than Bridget's daughter, the father being unknown. Her baptism record has not been found yet.
Date of birth is from death certificate.Year of birth determined from 1871 census data.

Notes for ROBERT FRANCIS WYNN:
Robert "Wing" first appears in 1885/6 issue of the Minneapolis, employed by J.B. Chatterton, and living at 40 8th Ave N.E.The 1885 census also has him down as Robert "Wing".He used "Winn" spelling for several years, including his 1886 marriage application.
A John Winn receded Robert by two years, living at the same address as Robert, also worked for Hobart & Chatterton, predecessor to J.B. Chatterton. The 1885 census shows John Winn boarding with Daniel Sullivan at 919 N E Ramsey, age 23, birthplace Canada.According to the records of St. Dunstan's R.C. Church in Fredericton, N.B. John of the York, N.B. George Wynn family was born in 1860.This makes it very likely that he is Robert's brother, and that there was Robert's origin.I don't know where John went from Minneapolis.
J.B. Chatteron was a lumber company specializing in cedar post and pilings.Timber bridges and other heavy wooden structures were their business.Today, Scherer Brothers Lumber Company occupies the same location.Wynn was a laborer. The aforementioned John Wynn was listed as laborer in the directory.
Dennis Harrington lived at 40 8th Ave N.E. and also worked for Chatterton.Robert lived there, and presumably due to the close proximity, met Teresa Agnes Crotty, Dennis' stepdaughter.
Robert filed naturalization papers on Sept 17, 1888 using "Wynn" spelling. He states that he came to the USA on or about August 24, 1885.
A repot in the Minneapolis Journal reveals that he and Agnes divorced about 1909, remarried each other in December 1914.

i.MARION5 CROTTY133, b. August/03/1914, Minneapolis, Minnesota134; d. January/26/2002, Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Notes for MARION CROTTY:
This is a autobiography and story from Marion Crotty, daughter of Cornilius Jr. & Elizabeth Moran Crotty.
Marion and her siblings, Frank Earl, Dona, and Elaine and their parents lived in several places throughout Minneapolis, Minnesota when they were growing up.
She recalls 1201 - 3rd St. N.E. across from Engstrom's Meat Market. There was a Fire Department near them which used horses not fire engines.
As a child Marion would be assigned the pleasant job of going to the drugstore on Sundays. She would take a big glass bowl & they would fill it for her charging $.15 a bowl. She would have to hurry home so the whole family could partake before it melted.
They used an icebox in their house, like everyone else & ice needed to be replaced every other day or so.It cost $.15 for a piece of ice and the kids would follow the ice wagon down the street hoping some would drop out.A sign in the window of one store said "ICE-25lb - 75 lb or 100 lb.
When Marion was 9 years old she made her 1st. Communion at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in N. E. Minneapolis, Minnesota. This is where her Mother & Father were married back in 1911.
Another place they lived was by Logan Park on Jefferson St. N.E.They only lived there for 6-8 months. Then they moved to 1617 19th Ave N.E. a brown house with rats. The pipes froze and there was a hole in the kitchen floor. They were 10 blocks from Hillside Cemetery.Frank & Earl, her 2 brothers and children, would follow the funeral processions and whenever possible, take flowers off the Caskets and bring them home for their Mother, Elizabeth. The next place they moved to was 4252-42nd.They lived there for 2 years.Arbeyos was the landlords name. This was in 1929.Marion was 15 years old.It was during the depression.Marion used to baby sit at Thadeus Health School on 8th St. and University S.E.Marion was very thin and there was the possibility of her contracting T. B.Apparently Frank, her brother , was at risk also.A nurse would check the periodicaly.Marion used the services of this school for 2 years while her siblings attended Morris Park Grade School.
Marion went to Miller Vocational High School on 11th St & 3rd Ave in Downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. She also attended Marchall High School where she graduated.Won City Championship for football, She remembers, with athletes used from outside of the school.
Another place the family lived was 56th St. & 44th Ave So.A landlord by the name of Harris lived there also. This was during the depression. The house had only outdoor plumbing. They also lived on 49th and Hiawatha South.Marion stayed at a Mrs. Struebles home and cleaned her 8 rooms, cooked, and ironed in exchange for her schooling to become a Secretary. She also received a small salary which she used to purchase gifts for her parents and siblings much of the time.
She remembers that around this time, Frank, her brother, was 15 years old and was unhappy because he could not buy a car until he was 16 years young.
Next they moved to 1522 E 22nd in Bloomington, Minnesota, to Holy Rosey Parish.Their phone number was " Bridgeport 8447 ".Frank moved to New York to train horses for a fellow named Leo Butler. He returned 2 years later.
Marion said that he returned with all kinds of crazy ideas on how they should live their lives, and make money etc.He gave his Mother, Elizabeth, Sunday off from cooking to to prepare a meal himself for the family. He concocted a Ham & Cherry Salad for them, but made such a mess that apparently his cooking career came to an abrupt halt.
They moved again to 936-14th Ave So on the 2nd floor. You could smell Grandpas pipe whenever you entered their doorway and walked up to the 2nd floor where they lived.
After Grandpa Neil died Marion and her Mother Elizabeth moved to an apartment at 3627 Nicolet Ave So., Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was there that Grandma Elizabeth died in a chair one night in her sleep.Marion found her in the morning.I remember her calling our House at 6 am to tell Dad (Frank) that she had died during the night.Dad (Frank) was crying and trying to shave quickly in the bathroom. When he came out I asked him if he wanted to go along with him over to Marion's because I didn't want him to be alone. He said, no that he would go alone.
Marion trained for Secretarial Skills and was employed at Thedrosde Company for 20 years and retired from there.
She had never married. She use to tell Elizabeth Crotty, " Don't rush into Marriage, Betty.Wait to make sure its what you really want. After all - I waited."That really scared me since she was about 63 at the time.
Marion was very active in the Cenacle Retirement House in Wazzata, Minnesota for many years.
Marion is a very giving person.Whenever you gave her a gift she would always give it away to someone else.It could be to a total stranger. She loved to give things to people & has a wonderful sense of humor.
Marion also enjoyed entertaining and cooked delicious meals for her guests. My favorite dish of hers was her baked pork chops.
Marion has since developed Osteoporosis and presently resides at St. Anthony's Elder care in North east Minneapolis. She is being lovingly cared for by her sister Elaine's family. It's ironic that she is at that location at 87 years young. She went to grade school at St. Antony of Padua - the church next door. Her parents were married in that church also. And Elizabeth Crotty graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School which was replaced by St. Anthony Elder care. She's happy to be there.

The longtime Bachman's employee invented a tree-shaped poinsettia stand called the Dazzler. He also designed the floor-to-ceiling ivy arches inside the conservatory at the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.

Kelly of Bloomington, died Sunday at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. His family said he suffered from histiocytosis, a rare disease that affected his lungs. He was 62.

Growing up in south Minneapolis he demonstrated a knack for mechanics as a youngster. His father, who owned an appliance repair shop, often brought home broken clocks for James to fix."He was never afraid to take things apart," said Sheila, his wife of 40 years.

After graduating from Southwest High School, Kelly attended the University of Minnesota for a couple of years. He later studied at Dunwoody Institute, graduating in 1958.At first he went into the automotive industry. But he worked for 44 years at Bachman's.

He started out sharpening lawn mower blades and ended up in charge of Bachman's facilities engineering. He also handled the company's special projects including the Dazzler. The unusual plant stand originated when Kelly's boss asked him if he could make something like a wooden tree-shaped plant stand that was on the market.

Kelly "has always been that go-to-person," said Bachman's president, Dale Bachman."His attitude was always a can-do attitude. He carried that through his entire life."When architects of the conservatory at the Sculpture Garden were looking for a design, Kelly handled it.The result was the creation of what are called the living arches--ivy walls of inspiration.

In addition to his wife, Kelly is survived by sons Michael of Sterling, Va. Kevin of Eden Prairie; Brian of Columbia Heights; Dennis of Eden Prairie; and William of St. Louis Park;a daughter Melissa of St. Louis Park; sisters Betty Peterson of Camp Springs, MD; Donna Peterson of Minneapolis; Lorraine Keske of East Grand Forks, Minnesota; and Eileen LaSalle of Eden Prairie, and many grandchildren.

MINNEAPOLIS STAR AND TRIBUNE - Wednesday March 29, 2000

ROBERT H. WILLIAMS -- DIES AT AGE 86; WAS PRESIDENT OF CREA METTE--He founded a Canada branch of the company in the 1940's

Robert H. Williams, who founded the CREA METTE Company. of Canada Ltd. in Winnipeg and was president of the CREA METTE Company. in the United States, died Saturday at the R. C. Little Hospice in Edina. He was 86.

The cause of death is unknown, said his son, Robert Williams of Jordan. (E-mail from Bob on3/29/2000, Dad passed away last Saturday evening in the hospice.Jeff said he opened his eyes as wide as an owl, took a deep breath....and was gone.Everything was quiet and peaceful, and didn't need to go on any further. The funeral was Thursday, the 30th.)

As president, Bob Williams "helped broaden the product coast-to-coast,"said another son Jeffery Williams of Burnsville."He was the most honest man I have ever met.He knew a lot of people. He had a lot of friends, and he was a real generous man."

Bob Williams started working for CREAM ETTE, a macaroni maker, in the early 1930s, when he was 16.He later became a company salesman. In the early 1940'shis father James T. Williams, who started the company in Minneapolis in 1915, asked him to start a CREAMETTE branch in Canada.

In 1952, Bob Williams returned to the United States and in the late 1960's became president of CREAMETTE.

"He liked to get out into the countryside and work with the representatives that represented CREAMETTE, and work with the grocery-chain people," Robert Williams said "He just enjoyed the social side of the business. He wasn't one for the hard sell."

By the 1970's, CREAMETTE was considered one of the region's "premier food companies," according to a Star Tribune story in November 1999.

Until the 1979 sale to Borden Inc., another well-known name in the food industry, the Williams trust consisted mostly of CREAMETTE stock, allowing the family to retain control of the business, which brought fast-cooking elbow macaroni to the dinner tables of generations of Americans.

Robert K. Williams said his father decided to sell the company because he felt it was the best thing to do "instead of getting a third generation involved."

Bob Williams was born in Minneapolis, and after high school attended the University of Notre Dame and then the University of St. Thomas.

In 1996 he had a stroke that hindered his speaking ability, but he continued to work until he died.

"He didn't want to retire," his son Robert said. "He just couldn't sit still."He said his father's loss of speech was the "Most frustrating thing in the last three years."

Lynn E. Shea of Eden Prairie said her father was " a wonderful man who loved to talk to people. He put so much effort into talking to people and getting to know them."

In addition to his sons and daughter, Williams is survived by another daughter, Kathy Williams of San Jose, Calif; a sister, Margaret Louise Linstroth of Edina, and seven grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at 1 P. M. Thursday at St. Patrick's Church, Valley View and Gleason Roads, Edina Minnesota.Services will follow.Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.

Notes for JOHN J. WYNN:
Grandma Lillian claims that John Wynn had Native American blood from one of his parents. This was suggested by Gladys Nygren, her Mother. If there is any, it would presumably be from Agnes (Crotty) Wynn's natural father, who remains unknown, and therefore probably Micmac tribe.Or, it is possible that it came from Robert Wynn's parentage. His place of birth hasn't been positively identified, but very likely York county, N.B.If there is Native American blood from his side (which is in doubt because the family is most likely 100% Irish) it would presumably Micmac also.

Indian question remains a tantalizing, though unlikely possibly.

Notes for HELEN CROTTY:
Helen's Sister Marcella Crotty (Watts) remembers Helen's cooking well. One Thanksgiving day Helen asked Gordon Watts (Marcella's husband) if he would like some home-made pumpkin pie.Gordon replied no thank you I don't like pumpkin pie even when it is good. You should know that the statement went out before Gordon could stop. You see Helen was not the best cook. She had made the pie crust and then put it in the pie tin and used her hands to press out the dough, however she didn't press very well on the lower edges of the pie crust - this left about 1/2 to 3/4 inch crust on the bottom edges of the pie, somewhat like the shape of a cone and then added the pie filling.
Helen used to sit in the dark to eat her dinners, her false teeth were very loose, and it would embarrassed her in front of other people.

He married Shirley Coates, and they had 2 children, Patty and Sharon.
They divorced, he didn't see his 2 girls again until he was in his 60's; Sharon came to visit him, and he was thrilled to see her.
In Earl's teenage years, he helped break horses with his brother Frank, at Fort Snelling, Minnesota.
His sister, Marion, said that he loved to sleep as a teenager.
He introduced his brother Frank to his (Frank's) soon to be wife, Dena after Frank returned from WW II.
Later in life, Earl moved into an apartment building where his sister Marion resided (at her suggestion).Earl was living in the Adams Apartments downtown Minneapolis, and where was becoming an increasingly dangerous area to live.
Marion would cook for him and bring delicious meals to his apartment.Earl contracted throat cancer. He had a lot of difficulty in swallowing so Marion would " Puree" a lot of his meals, while he was able to care for himself.Later he was moved to "Our Lady of Good Counsel" Cancer home, where he received great care.He was not allowed to smoke, but he managed to sneak a few now and then.He also developed ulcers on his head, and passed away at the age of 69.
Earl loved to go on fishing trips to Canada with his brother, Frank.Through the years, there they caught hundreds of large fish, and took pictures of every one of them.
Earl was a handsome man, somewhat shy and gentle.Earl and Frank were very close.

Marion Crotty purchased his grave July 19,1983 for $400.00

Notes for FRANCIS CROTTY:
This is written by Elizabeth (Crotty) Johnson, daughter of Frank and Dena Crotty. Frank is Neil and Elizabeth (Moran) Crotty's son.
My dad Frank Crotty was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota April 27, 1919.He was the 3rd child of Neil and Elizabeth Crotty who had 5 children.
Frank's behavior, as a child, could only be described in one word, "Hellion" says his older sister, Marion Crotty. He was always trying to get attention. One time he did a magician act by pulling the tablecloth out from under an already set table. "He needed more practice" said Marion, since the dishes went flying, and crashed to the floor.
He tried running away from home several times when he was a small boy. They finally had to tie him to a tree until he promised never to run away again.
Frank Crotty and his father Neil Crotty were always very proud of their Irish heritage.Neil would make his kids, Frank included, do the Irish jig whenever company visited them much to their dismay.
When Frank was 14 yrs.. young he got a job picking potatoes and weeding carrots, onions, radishes, and beans.
Another job at 14 was at the Veteran's Hospital in Minneapolis. He earned $1.00 per hour for crawling inside furnaces to chip the creosote off the inside bricks. He wore a mask, and coughed and sweated while having a 25 watt bulb for a light.
He also put up hay on some farms in Richfield, Minnesota for many summers, also earning a dollar an hour.
When he was 16 he worked at the St. Paul Refrigeration Company. He made $3.20 for an 8 hour day or 40 cents per hour, and they also took out taxes. His job was working in hot ovens with a wrench and a brush to brush out the areas where there was build up around the screws. Then he would ride the "Streetcar" home looking all dirty and tired.
He also had a job for 10 cents a row picking onions in 4 rows, each row was 100 feet long.At 5:30 am he would wait at the Farmers Market on Lyndale Ave in Minneapolis for the farmers to come in.They would sell their produce there and ask for "10 guys" to come out and work their fields. If you were lucky you were assigned to the washhouse where it was shady and cool, washing vegetables and bunching them up.
In Frank's teenage years he and his brother Earl broke horses at Fort Snelling in Minneapolis.
Frank attended Nokomis Junior High School in Minneapolis, graduating from 9th grade, but that was as far as his schooling went.It was there that he won a Scholarship to Dunwoody Technical Institute in Minneapolis to study printing. The Scholarship was worth $500.00.He only attended two weeks and he had to quit to earn some money. He then traveled to New York to work with horses and was paid $20.00 a month.
His trade during his life was a "Pressman".In junior high he took printing and said he was the "Head Pressman" of his class in 9th grade. He even instructed his classmates and felt that he knew more than the instructor.
Frank served in the U.S. Army for 3 years. He fought in WW II overseas. He fell in love in Italy, and wrote home to his Mother Elizabeth, asking her to send him a wedding dress for his bride-to-be.Grandma did so immediately.(this was before he met my Mother Dena). He then received orders that he would be shipped home so he came home - unmarried and without the wedding dress.I asked him what happened to the girl and he said, " I got shipped home - don't you understand?!!When he returned from the service he took a cab everywhere. He said he was tired of walking.
Frank gave his sons "Sugar Bowl" haircuts when they were young, which of course they hated.
Frank had a wonderful sense of humor as did Dena, and would always try to make us laugh if we were sad.I remember when I was about 7 we lived at 346 Newton Ave N Minneapolis. There was a vacant lot across the street and some kids were playing baseball.I begged them to play so they named me everlasting fielder (without a glove) Almost immediately I caught a fly ball, much to everyone's surprise, especially mine.My hand stung beyond belief so I dropped the ball and ran home crying to my dad. " I caught a fly ball with my bare hands!"He examined both my hands and then said, "where - where's the fly?I don't see any flies at all!"Of course he made me laugh through my tears.
In the last couple weeks of my Father's life my brothers and sisters, and I took turns caring for him in his apartment. We are so thankful that Hospice was involved because he had things in a very comfortable manner. He was dying of emphysema as did our mother Dena 5 years prior.I felt that it was a privilege to care for him and treasured the last couple weeks he had left.He was very accepting about dying. He told me "Don't feel sorry for me.I have lived my life exactly the way I wanted.I married the greatest woman on earth, we had 6 kids who all turned out pretty good.I'm in my 70's (75), mom's dead and I can't even go fishing anymore.I've lived my life and now my time is up."
My dad Frank told me fun things that we never talked about from his childhood days.Frank remembered when he was about 7 that his grandfather Conrad (Corneilus Sr.) and his grandmother Mary Ellen, came to live with them in Minneapolis. They were flat broke, and they had taken the train from Aunt Rose's house in California because " Rose couldn't keep them longer."It was about 1926 then if Frank was 7 & that would make Grandpa Conrad about 81 since he was born in 1845.Grandma Mary Ellen who was born in 1847, would have been 79.I presume they both died in Minneapolis, and I plan to confirm that with their death certificates at the court house.
Frank said at that time (the 20's) you either drove a car ( if you were rich) or a horse and buggy. Then he went on to say that his Father, Corneilus Jr., bought a used "Model T" for under $100 in about 1925 or so, however his was not rich.
When Frank was about 8 he remembered his folks (Con Jr. and Elizabeth) taking himself and his brothers and sisters to Mass at the V A Hospital {they lived in Minneapolis} because St. Helena's was too far to talk during the wintertime (what happened to the car?)At the V.A. Hospital he recalled the high backed wheel chair and a "good-looking guy" sitting in one who couldn't stop shaking his head, and Frank felt sorry for him.
At Christmastime when he was a child, Grandpa Neil would bring home a tree, and place it in a bucket of water. They would decorate it with candles, since there was no electricity then. They only left the candles burning for a short time, and had to blow them out so a fire wouldn't start. The gifts he received were usually underwear and socks and he said " you were lucky to get anything back then."
Frank recalled candy bars for 5 cents and going to the movies for 10 cents, and gasoline was 20 cents a gallon.Franklin Roosevelt was the president when he was a child.
His favorite food prepared by his mother was her baked beans, made with navy beans, molasses, and brown sugar. He loved her roast pork and her baked bread.
I remember my father (Frank) playing with his grandchildren on his lap when each of them were babies. He would make a face that always made the baby laugh. As they got older and came to visit, he would always make a point of saying when they left "Adios" instead of good bye. They would always respond with "Adios, Grandpa!"

Notes for ROBERT HICKEY WILLIAMS:

The men were always hard workers in carpentry and in early generations farming also. They also tended to die at younger ages from heart disease. Perhaps what Louis enjoyed the most was sharing stories. Information regarding family heritage had been gathered and shared by him as he was seen as the one to maintain the stories. He was also eager to share other stories to help others obtain "life Messages" in subtle ways. He was a quiet man yet when he spoke one could tell there was probably a story that would be on its way into what he wanted to say. He loved to fish.

Notes for TERESINA JOSEPHINE SCHELLINGER:
BIO:Teresina Josephine Schellinger (Tere) One of my earliest experiences which helped shape my life was having Petti Mal epilepsy from an early age until seventh grade. It was interesting too since we could not find any family history of this anywhere. And amazingly enough is just went away at a time when it could have become much worse.I grew up in a family which held beliefshat being non-judgmental, caring for others, and treating others with the respect we'd like to be treated with were the foundations of life.As I continue through life I've been blessed with many challenges and experiences which have allowed me to live these foundations.Part of these experiences include graduating with Majors in Social Work and Psychology from St. Cloud State University. And I am currently seeking a school to obtain a Masters Degree in Social Work.On both my mothers and fathers sides of the family there are strong family ties. Each 4th of July we
would and still do go to Grand Lake to my Uncle Joe Bruning's home and my great Aunt & Uncles Marion and Ed Zapps'.Then each October (the first Sunday) my dad's relatives and family friends are invited to a Bouja Party at my Uncle's country home.As busy as our lives may become, it has been wonderful to know that at least two times out of the year time has been set aside to share with relatives.

BIO:Mary Anne Zapp (Gevng) - I was lucky to be born on May 23, 1936, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Marion F. Gillis Zapp and Edward A. Zapp.No one could have better parents than mine.I was baptized at Holy Angles Church in St. Cloud. My brother Eddie was born about a month before I turned 4 years old.I attended Holy Angles Grade School and Cathedral High School, and graduated with a B. S. Degree from St. Cloud State University. The day after I graduated, May 31, l958 I married Dale W. Geving.I taught Kindergarten in the Osseo,Minnesota. School District for a year and a half. Those were the days when you had to quit teaching if you became pregnant. On February 21, l960 our first daughter Dianne Marie was born in St. Barnabas Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota. When Dianne was 6 months old we moved from Anoka, Minnesota. to a U. S. Military Base in Poitiers, France, where Dale taught in the U. S. Military High School. Our next two children were born on a Military Base in Chinon, France;Michelle Elaine on August 9, l962 and Cheryl Anne on March 3 1964.We lived in France for 4 years because Dale changed his career from teaching to Computer Programing. We also lived in Frankfurt, Germany for a year before transferring back to the States. We then moved to St. Louis, Mo.Our son, Mark was born on August 3, l966, in the St. Cloud Hospital - as we were between moves from St. Louis to Bloomington, Minnesota. What a way to get your husband to handle all the moving! One year later we moved to Chanhassen, Minnesota. and have resided there ever since.Through the years I have done some substitute teaching and lots of volunteer work in the Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, the church Etc.I've been on the Parish Council of St. Huberts' Church, wrote and edited the Parish Newsletter for about 4 years, was chairwoman of the Parish Education Committee, taught C.C.D. etc.Now I figure it's someone else's turn.In December this past year my husband, Dale retired and at the moment we still aren't sure what our next move will be,although I'm sure we won't sit in one place. We love to travel and through the years have had many wonderful trips, through Europe, Florida, New Mexico, California, the Coast of Oregon and Washington, an Alaskan Cruise, and just this last year went East through New York, New Hampshire, Vermont Maine and into Nova Scotia, & New Brunswick to visit the places my ancestors had trod.On that trip we went all the way to New Foundland and back through French Canada. In the last nine years we have become Grandparents five times. John, Brad, and Nicole Baranick and David and Jenna Jabs have all become a very special and important part of our lives.
