WHY DIY FACE WASH?5 DIY Face Wash Recipes for All Skin Types (4)

If you have been around the blog long, you know I am a big fan of making my own homemade products to cut down on chemicals in my home. I find that making my own is the best option and can save you money!

Unfortunately, most conventional face washes you find at the store are loaded with toxins and chemicals you won’t want in your home or touching your skin. Here are a few of the many chemicals that can be found in conventional face cleaners:

PARABENS

Parabens are a group of compounds used as a preservative to prevent bacteria and mold from growing in most face washes, cosmetics, and personal products. It sounds like a good thing, but they also have some major drawbacks. They mimic estrogen and cause hormone imbalances. Parabens are found in 99% of breast cancer tumors!

SYNTHETIC COLORS AND FRAGRANCE

Artificial colors, dyes, and fragrances can cause allergic reactions, contain hormone disturbers, carcinogens, and have been linked to damage sperm. Some dyes, like red40, are banned in other countries. Use your essential oils instead of fragrance for a natural alternative and their health benefits.

TRICLOSAN

Triclosan is an antibacterial agent and preservative found in personal care and home cleaning products. It is a hormone disruptor; and can irritate the skin, lungs, and eyes. It is especially dangerous for the thyroid. Because of its antibacterial properties, it can also be damaging for our gut flora and pose a problem with the good and bad bacteria balance in our bodies.

Have you ever made your own face wash, scrub, or toner? What ingredients did you use and what were your results? I love hearing from you!
