The Strategic Sales Consultant is responsible for partnering with OptumRx Sales Executives/Sales Leaders to drive new business growth. The Strategic Sales Consultant will work collaboratively with their assigned Sales Executives/Sales Leaders to support all stages of the sales cycle and manage internal sales operational processes. This role is essential to ensuring the Sales team is set up to have the strongest possible set of sales activities and outcomes. It is also crucial in maintaining effective communication channels across departments and providing outstanding customer support to the internal sales clients.

Growth and Commercial Support: Proactively supports the growth of the pipeline through development of strategic territory plans, identification of prospect opportunities for targeting new clients.

  • Conducts market research on the prioritized accounts through proactive use of data and internet sources to identify potential areas for targeting
  • Conducts analysis and identifies top opportunities in each territory for a market segment. Identifies and maintains information on prospective clients
  • Collaborates with Sales Executive/Sales Leaders to identify potential targets and project manages next steps and follow-up
  • Supports the contract process as required and marshals resources as necessary around contract completion and execution
  • Assists in Identifying industry and conference events that will be beneficial for establishing relationships and furthering business
  • Able to articulate the OptumRx Value Story

Sales Executive/Sales Leader Operational Support – Serves as the strategic partner for their Sales Executives/Sales Leaders and will work collaboratively to support the day-to-day business activities toward achievement of their quota. Activities include:

  • Acts as an internal and external liaison to prospects, contacts, brokers/consultants on behalf of the Sales Executive/Sales Leader
  • Facilitates preparation of all background information for important meetings. This may include both internal background intelligence and external meeting materials
  • Partner in preparation for internal business review session (Large Case Review, etc.)
  • Supports RFP activities throughout the sales process. Coordinates resources where necessary
  • Leverages and maintains internal systems such as Salesforce for accuracy and data integrity
  • Maintains client overview documents to use for meeting preparation and to circulate among internal teams to share information about clients
  • Actively establishes collaborative relationships across support teams, business units and other functional areas from which we require positive engagement to achieve quota goal Collaborates with other departments and manages cross-functional projects
  • Drives activities to prepare for virtual and finalist meetings as well as facilitates meetings as necessary

Special Department Projects – Actively seeks special projects across the department. This may include key initiatives across multiple stakeholders, onboarding new staff, ownership of an ad hoc project, etc. Serves as a leader in this area and enfranchise peers or other staff as necessary to ensure strong execution of the project.

Subject Matter Expert – Finds opportunities to establish expertise within the role such that he/she becomes a “go-to” among peers, leaders and Sales Executives/Sales Leaders.

Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of health care or PBM operations or sales support or client management experience
  • 3+ years of project management experience or market research experience
  • Proven ability to exhibit solid analytical mindset
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and listening skills
  • Proven excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills and ability to balance multiple priorities
  • Proficiency within Microsoft Office products

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proposal/RFP experience
  • Experience reviewing sales bids
  • Experience in sales support role
  • Client management experience
  • Experience working with public sector clients.
  • Salesforce.com experience
  • PBM experience
  • Healthcare industry experience

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $88,000 to $173,200 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
