Can I Bake These Nachos in Oven Instead of Grill

Yes. If the weather is not permitting or if you prefer the oven, you can use a cookie sheet and lay the aluminum foil down on the baking sheet. The grill will add a bit of smokey flavor to the recipe, but it is not something you have to have done.

How to Make Loaded Nacho Recipe

Start by warming up your grill. You then want to lay out foil (around 20 inches long) and put two on top of each other. On the longest side, fold both pieces of foil together, and over, 3 times. This is going to combine the sheets together to make one huge piece of foil.

After folding the foil together, open the non folded sides opening to one giant sheet (fold part should be in the center). Spray the whole foil with nonstick spray.

Place tortilla chips into the center of the foil. Spread beans out on top of the chips, then tomatoes, then sprinkle the cheese on top to cover.

Pull up long sides of the foil, together with above the chips; fold twice to seal, leaving room above nachos. Roll the sides up so that they are sealed, also leaving some space around nachos.

Place on grill over low heat, close grill, cook for 8-10 minutes. Remove, open carefully (steam will be coming out), add green onions, sour cream, and hot sauce (optional) to the top.

Serve immediately and enjoy!

Loaded Nachos on the Grill Recipe!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Easy grilled loaded nachos that are stuffed full of toppings and cheese. This loaded nacho recipe is easy and downright finger licking good.

Ingredients

  • 1⁄2 bag of tortilla chips
  • 15 ounce can black beans, drained and rinsed 2 plum tomatoes, chopped
  • 4 ounces monterey jack cheese, shredded
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 1⁄4 cup sour cream
  • hot sauce, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat grill over low heat. Taking 2 sheets of heavy duty foil, at least 20 inches long each, set them on top of each other.
  2. On the longest side, fold both pieces of foil together, and over, 3 times. This is going to combine the sheets together to make one huge piece of foil.
  3. After folding the foil together, open the non folded sides opening to one giant sheet (fold part should be in the center). Spray the whole foil with non stick spray.
  4. Place tortilla chips into the center of the foil. Spread beans out on top of the chips, then tomatoes, then sprinkle the cheese on top to cover.
  5. Pull up long sides of foil, together above the chips; fold twice to seal, leaving room above nachos. Roll the sides up so that they are sealed, also leaving some space around nachos.
  6. Place on grill over low heat, close grill, cook for 8-10 minutes. Remove, open carefully (steam will be coming out), add green onions, sour cream, and hot sauce (optional) to the top.
  7. Serve immediately and enjoy!
  8. Note: Be sure to cook over LOW heat on the grill. Cooking over too high of heat will result in chips burning on the bottom. Also be sure to leave room around nachos when sealing the foil pack, you need there to be room for steam to circulate to melt the cheese and heat everything.

How to Store Leftover Nachos

If you have leftovers, store in the fridge. They will last 1-2 days and then become a bit mushy and need to be tossed out. They are best when served warm.

Best Way to Reheat Nachos

If you want to reheat your nachos you can warm them up in the oven very easily. Preheat oven to 350 degrees, toss them in on aluminum foil and then heat till warmed through. Or if you want to eat them cold!

FAQs

How do you make loaded nachos not soggy? ›

* Bring refrigerated toppings to room temperature before piling them onto the warm chips. * To prevent the chips from getting soggy, sprinkle grated or crumbled cheese on top and bake them in the oven for a few minutes. When melted, the cheese will act as a buffer between the chips and toppings.

Do you put toppings on nachos before or after cooking? ›

It will only take about 5 to 10 minutes, so don't go too far! Don't add the cold/fresh toppings until AFTER the nachos come out of the oven. Add the toppings RIGHT before serving so the chips don't get soggy, especially with toppings like sour cream, salsa, and tomatoes. Serve immediately.

What is the secret to crispy nachos? ›

Limiting the number of ingredients baked with the chips is the key to crispiness. Top chips with no more than two or three toppings. Choose from items such as black beans, refried beans, chopped grilled chicken, seasoned ground beef (browned and drained), or chopped jalapenos.

What do loaded nachos contain? ›

Pre-shredded cheese is coated with an anti-caking powder that prevents it from melting to its gooiest potential. Pico de gallo (store bought or fresh), guacamole, sour cream, sliced jalapeños, diced onions and tomatoes, and fresh cilantro are classic fresh nacho toppings to sprinkle over top.

What is the secret to good homemade nachos? ›

Packaged, pre-shredded cheeses contain stabilizers which hinder their meltability. Shred your own cheese instead of chopping or tearing it: Smaller pieces will melt quicker, which means your nachos will be perfectly gooey without charred or overdone chips. One layer of chips and toppings is good.

What is the best melting cheese for nachos? ›

Sharp cheddar gets my vote for nacho cheese. It melts smoothly without being stringy, while having a nice flavorful punch. You can use mild or medium cheddar if you prefer, but the flavor will be a bit blander. Monterey jack and pepper jack also melt really well into sauces and make a great white nacho cheese sauce.

How many layers should nachos be? ›

As many as you like. I usually have one layer of chips, then cheese, more chips, meat of choice, choped tomatoes, onion, cliantro, salsa and sour cream.

Do tomatoes go on nachos before or after cooking? ›

To achieve this, put one layer of chips on a baking sheet, then cover with cheese and toppings. Repeat until you've used everything up so that every bite is the same from beginning to end. Sprinkle on fresh toppings like cilantro, scallions, tomatoes, and pickled jalapenos on after the nachos come out of the oven.

What kind of cheese goes on nachos? ›

Cheddar cheese is a popular choice these days, though Monterey Jack and Mozzarella work just as well. Nacho cheese, or cheese sauce, is another delightful interpretation of this key ingredient. To transform your nachos into a heartier snack or even a main meal, consider adding a meat filling.

How do you add flavor to nachos? ›

Step 1Top nachos with tomatoes, avocado, cilantro (if using), and scallions. Step 2Drizzle with sour cream and hot sauce and serve immediately.

What goes good with loaded nachos? ›

Loaded nachos pair perfectly with Salsa Verde, Homemade Salsa, or Queso Blanco. They're delicious and a party favorite!

What's the difference between loaded nachos and nachos? ›

Nachos with an abundance of toppings are sometimes called "loaded nachos". This type of dish is usually served as an appetizer at bars or restaurants in the United States and elsewhere.

Will nachos go soggy in the fridge? ›

The best way to store nachos is to cover them tightly with aluminum foil or cling film and put them in the refrigerator where they will keep fresh for as long as a week.

How do you keep nacho sauce liquid? ›

If at any point the nacho cheese gets too thick and doesn't “run” off the spoon, just add more water or milk, and whisk to combine. This happens naturally as the sauce cools down toward room temperature.
