Don't Starve Together: Everything You Need To Know About Woodie's Skill Tree (2024)

When skill trees were introduced to Don't Starve Together the first three characters to receive this change were Wormwood, Wolfgang and Woodie. These skill trees are accessible only when a Moon Rock Idol is presented to the Celestial Portal, and the points spent in these trees carry over between games.

Insight Points are awarded passively for playing as different characters, and each tends to have three trees that branch off into the biggest and best boons. Two of the trees are very specific to whoever you're playing as, and the third line is always themed with Lunar and Shadow perks.

9 Transformation Timer

Part of the Cursed category, the Transformation tree is an all-around good one to spend Insight on. It positively impacts every Were-form that Woodie takes, making the curse more of a blessing.

The first three levels of this branch will slow the drain of the Were-form meter as long as you are using the abilities they give. For instance, as the Werebeaver you need to be chopping down resources, or as the Weregoose you have to run around like a headless chicken.

The final tier makes Woodie's curse a walk in the park, as when you revert to your human self you will retain your Sanity and a sliver of Hunger.

8 Werebeaver Mastery

This branch of the Cursed category sees all of the Beaver boons enhanced. The first tier allows for faster chopping of trees, while the second tier is unlocked means you can break any Boulders much faster in Werebeaver form.

The third makes it possible for your Beaver teeth to crunch down on much harder structures, such as Ryfstals and Dreadstone, found in the Caves surrounding the Nightmare Werepig.

Mastering this curse means no other cursed form can be mastered, so be aware when picking. The final level unlocked when mastery is achieved is a tail-slap attack.

This acts exactly like a Bearger ground-pound, where plants are uprooted and mobs take 25 damage. It can even be used to speed you across the Ocean while on a Boat.

7 Weremoose Mastery

The first tier of the Weremoose tree makes you a little faster in this cursed form, and means you can recover faster after charging into things. The second tier allows you to slowly regenerate Health while you trot about, about 1.5 points every couple of seconds.

Have you ever started charging and then instantly regretted it? Well, Weremoose III gives you the chance to stop a charge before you slam into something you shouldn't.

Finally, mastery in this tree gives your Weremoose a mighty 136 damage every third hit, as well as damage reduction that scales the bigger the hit. This makes tanking bosses a real strategy, especially when paired with Wigfrid's Heartrending Ballad.

6 Weregoose Mastery

The goose is definitely on the loose, as this cursed mastery tree makes the form even better for exploration and running away. Tier one just makes you faster as a Weregoose, simple as that.

Tier two provides 100 percent water protection. As a waterfowl this makes sense, as geese don't ever seem to mind getting drenched, though every Were-form is 70 percent waterproof anyway.

The third tier is a little unreliable, as it randomly dodges an attack made against you. This trick shouldn't be your only battle tactic, but it might save you a little Health in a pinch.

The mastery of Weregoose is super fun, as the goose now learns how to fly! However, where you end up is out of your control. It could be in the Ocean, on Pearl's Island, or in a Tentacle Reed trap set piece.

5 Lumberjack Resources

Every tier in the Lumberjack category can be maxed out, so you don't need to pick one to specialize in as you do for the Curses.

Quick Picker does exactly what you think, each tier lets you collect resources a little faster than the last. This applies to Berries, Grass, Twigs, Cacti, and anything else that has an animation to harvest.

4 Lumberjack Tree Guard

The Tree Guard Feller mastery tree lets Woodie deal more damage to Tree Guards. This is by a pretty decent chunk, so it's a good mastery tree to invest in. This applies to the first and second tier.

The final tier is completely different though. Woodie gains access to a new craftable item, the Tree Guard Idol.

When set on the ground and lit on fire, all nearby Trees will turn into Tree Guards. This is a fantastic way to farm them for Living Logs, as well as Monster Meat, Twigs, Birchnuts, and Souls for Wortox.

3 Lumberjack Crafting

This tree allows for even more unique crafting options using Lucy as a conduit. The first tier speeds up Plank crafting when holding Lucy and means you only need three Logs per Plank, making that first Alchemy Machine a little cheaper, as well as all Chests.

From there you can spend Insight Points to open up a Hardwood Hat crafting recipe. Again, this is a Woodie and Lucy exclusive, requiring six Logs and a Pinecone.

This isn't just a fashion accessory though, as it guards your noggin for 70 percent armor, compared to a Football Helmet which has 80 percent but requires an Alchemy Machine, and Wigfrid's Battle Helm which has 80 percent too.

The final item Woodie can craft is the Wooden Walking Stick. This uses three Logs, a Charcoal, and Lucy again, and provides the user with a 15 percent Speed boost.

Compared to the normal Walking Stick that provides a 25 percent Speed boost, but isn't accessible until Winter or from a Winter's Feast Gift. The Wooden Walking Stick will degrade over time and lasts just over four in-game days.

2 Nightmare Affinity

The Affinity tree is only available when you've unlocked twelve other Skills first. After that, you need to defeat the Ancient Fuelweaver to access the Nightmare tree, so for most players, this is a boon for late-game players.

At this point, the game states that Queen Charlie rewards you for removing her enemy, and calls off her shadowy entourage. What this means is that when you're in any cursed Were-form you won't attract the ire of Nightmare Creatures.

It doesn't matter how insane you are, they'll spawn and leave you alone.

1 Lunar Affinity

The last tree involves the Cryptic Founder, one of the creatures from what used to be the moon. If you defeat their Celestial Champion after following all of their clues and ancient notes, you'll be rewarded for your curiosity.

No longer will the full moon automatically trigger Woodie's curse, meaning you now have full control over his transformations and will never be caught off guard by a metamorphosis again.

There is a choice to make here though, between allying yourself with Charlie or with the ancient lunar creatures. If you unlock one of these boons then the other will not be available to you.

There is a way to reset your entire Skill Tree if you really want to try out other options.
